Heath Ledger was found dead today at his Manhattan appartment. Discovered by the housekeeper and a masseuse who arrived in the afternoon for an appointment. [About.com Sci-Fi/Fantasy Blog] Signs pointed to a suicide or an accidental overdose, police sources said. [NYTimes City Room Blog]
For an even more detailed and in-depth rundown of the events of today’s tragedy, go to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Not to sound cold, but, where does this leave the upcoming batman sequel The Dark Knight? Well, Ledger recently completed work on The Dark Knight. The movie wrapped principal photography in November and is currently in post-production. Meaning we’ll all still get to see his gritty portrayal of the Joker, except now it’ll be just a little more creepy.
Tragic!
This is pretty much how the entire movie looks. Awesome.
I just got back from the much hyped (over hyped) Cloverfield monster movie. First, you probably want to know if this article will contain spoilers, right? No, no spoilers here, as there is nothing to spoil. That’s right, if you’ve seen any number of trailers or the first three minutes of this movie, you’ve seen about all the plot you’re going to see in the full length feature. No big news, but, there’s this giant monster terrorizing the city of New York, because that’s where monster hangout. The Statue of Liberty loses her head. Then there’s these people and they run from the monster. The end. Thanks for coming, I hope you enjoyed wasting ten dollars and two hours of your life.
Seriously. I’m being one hundred percent honest. That’s the movie. From start to finish the camera shakes only slightly less than riding down a rocky mountain on top of a washing machine strapped to a paint shaker. Slightly less. I highly recommend not eating before you see this movie. Then again, I highly recommend not going to see this movie in the first place.
Maybe if they would’ve put as much time into a story as they did the “mystery” of marketing Cloverfield it could’ve been good. Oh, and they never even tell us why the freakin’ movie is even called Cloverfield. Seriously! And the Star Trek trailer before the movie does NOT make up for the craptasticness of the movie. It’s more of a teaser than a full trailer.
Am I noticing a trend with J.J. Abrams? Like the fact that he can’t end a story maybe? He started Lost, it was great. Never ended it, and left before he could be blamed for never revealing anything. Before that he started Alias, also great. Then he left before that had a real ending. Now Cloverfield. Someone stop him before he ruins another good idea.
Fail!
Check out the just released first three minutes of the upcoming Cloverfield movie. This sure is a growing trend among new movies.
Monsters!
Rotten Tomatoes posted some quotes from Jeff Bridges. “I heard they’re going to pitch me one pretty soon,” said Bridges. “I hear they’re going to make a sequel. I’m always curious to hear what they’re going to say. I haven’t heard [the idea yet].”
That’s right people. Tron 2 has been rumored for a long time. Looks like Jeff Bridges might need the work. For some reason it seems like if they did a sequel to Tron he wouldn’t do anymore than a cameo in the film. Whatever, retro is the future of movies these days.
Of course, if they did a sequel now, they would be using all the newest, latest tech and innovations available. You know, like better glowing effects, and Imax 3D discs flying at our faces. Now that I think about it, Tron 2 would be pretty sweet in 3D on an Imax screen.
Tron!
Varitety reports that Alexander producer, Thomas Schuehly, has acquired the rights to Fritz Lang’s classic Sci-Fi film Metropolis. He will be partnering with Mario Kassar, producer on the upcoming Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles tv show, to update the classic 1927 film.
“Metropolis is one of the most groundbreaking films in cinematic history; its influence informed classic works throughout the 20th century, including James Whale’s Frankenstein, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Gattaca and The Matrix, the trade paper reported.
Considered one of the most expensive films of its time, Metropolis is set in 2026 in a massive city-state characterized by monumental skyscrapers and art-deco architecture.”
Sci-Fi!
That’s right everybody. The Counter Agent Network (C.A.N. is kind of a crappy acronym) is born. We have just added the new site SuperLame.com to our hopefully expanding network. So you ask, “What is SuperLame.com?” Well, I’ll tell you. It’s your online source for Movies, TV, Comics, Cartoons, Pop Culture, Art, Music, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Nerdliness, The Internets, Food & Drink, etc… It’s a great new place for all the great geeky, nerdy, awesome stuff in the world of underground pop culture. If that even makes sense? Just check it out, maybe you can help me describe it.
In addition to adding this site to the newly formed CounterAgent Network, we will also be refining what CounterAgent is. It will now include only games, tech, and music. That’s all. Check out SuperLame.com!
Boom!
Let me know what you think of this story. Leave your comments below or email me direct.
So, here’s a brief description of the movie: “A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between “Jumpers” and those who have sworn to kill them.” -IMDB.com
The new trailer, not just a teaser anymore, shows off what might actually be a decent film, even though the lead is none other than the dreadful Darth Vader himself, Hayden Christensen. In the new trailer for “Jumper” we get a longer look at Hayden’s character David. I’m still not sure exactly who the hero is and who the villain is from this. It seems like one of those gray area type situations. Samuel L. Jackson’s character, Cox, is one of the non-jumper’s that apparently isn’t too fond of jumpers, as he and others are trying to kill all the jumpers. It all looks like a pretty sweet new Sci-Fi film. At least it’s an original idea if nothing else. It’s based on the Steven Gould novel of the same name.
How Hayden Christensen continues to get work on the other hand is a mystery to me. Look for it in theater’s on February 14th 2008. And Check it out at JumperTheMovie.com
Later!

SuperLame!
Yeah, she is pretty hot, but control yourself or she’ll blow her rape whistle. Project Aiko is a sweet new girl android created by Trung Le. What will those crazy Canadian Asians do next? Anyway, she must have been involved in a tragic accident because she’s in a wheelchair. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she’s got plenty of baggage too. As demonstrated in the video, if you try to steal second base, she’s not having it.
You have to check this out. Here’s a quote from the official Project Aiko site, it sounds like something out of a Sci-Fi Original B-Movie:
With our current technology it is impossible to design software and hardware to mimic all systems of life. However, with Project Aiko, we are one step closer to designing an artificial intelligence neural network system which uses both dynamic software and hardware linked together to mimic part of human behaviour. By using Bio Robot Artificial Intelligence Neural System (aka B.R.A.I.N.S) software together with a custom designed Humanoid (aka Aiko), we hope one day we will make an android as close to a human as much as possible.
I voted it Best Acronym Lifeforms Love System (aka B.A.L.L.S), eh?
Boom!
Looks like the PC gaming community has been starved for a good FPS. Keep in mind this is just the demo, I mean wow. Here’s a link to get the frosty ice level, Frozen Island made by a modder by the name of Renji.
In related Crysis playing news, and general new PC game playing stuff, Firing Squad has posted tells you how to get the most out of a $500 PC upgrade.
