While I’m not a huge fan of racing games, Dirt is my favorite racing game maybe of all time. The guys behind Dirt, Codemasters, have a new racing game coming out this summer called Grid. Check out the video after the break. This game looks pretty darn impressive just by the video. Codemasters seem to have it down when it comes to racing games.
In other Codemasters news. Somehow we let a huge game slip through the cracks this winter. A PC exclusive……. DIRTY DANCING the game!!!! All I have to say is “IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!”
There is still no firm US release date for the upcoming Nintendo racing game Mario Kart Wii but that doesn’t stop the news from pouring in about it. Mario Kart has always been a blast to play and I’m sure this one will be no different. But I gotta say some of the news coming out for the game leaves me a little wanting. First off the game will not support voice chat. It will have great text chat though right? Well according to the boys over at IGN.com it won’t have great text chat either.
In our original article, we speculated that players might be able to use a USB keyboard or at the very least the Wii remote to enter customized text messages. Not so, according to a rep for Nintendo of America, who contacted us today to clarify. Apparently, gamers will only be able to select from a pre-determined number of phrases that can be sent along as rudimentary texts before matches. Nintendo is clearly playing it safe.
The Wii Wheel will be an amazing new gaming controller right? Kotaku posted a story about a blog post on Wii Wii by Bulent Yusuf. He had a chance to use the Wii Wheel, his impressions?
Finally, the Wii Wheel. This was the most disappointing thing, simply because it’s absolutely crap.
Though Nintendo valiantly tried to convince us otherwise, it’s a silly gimmick that detracts from the quality of the game. Fortunately, you can play using the standard Wiimote and Nunchuk, or you can bust out the GameCube pad and be proper old school.
Don’t know why Nintendo thought this thing was necessary; perhaps it looks good in advertising? A good way of bumping up the price? Either way, it’s rubbish.
You can check out the blog, but you won’t find anything because the post has been taken down. Maybe Nintendo didn’t like him dogging on the Wii Wheel?
Lastly there’s the news that you can purchase the Wii Wheel separately. Although it doesn’t sound like you’ll be enjoying it enough to buy more then one.
This is one Wii game I’m truly looking forward to, because you know it’s gonna be a blast to play. I’m not surprised that the wheel sucks and I was fully planning on turning the Wiimote on it’s side and using it that way. With that said I’m continually disappointed in the Wii these days. Sure voice chat isn’t that big of a deal but it’s still nice for a game to include that right? If no voice chat give us full text chat at least. While it still remains for each of us to decide if the Wii Wheel is any good, I’m not holding out to much hope. Isn’t using the Gamecube controller or really even turning the Wiimote sideways really just making this another Mario Kart game?
What do you think? Let us know.
Once again from the no-brain-er category comes the news that WipEout HD, the upcoming PS3 game, will have fully customizable soundtracks. Thank you!! Any racing game or sports game should have this feature, don’t ya think?
Last game I made a soundtrack for was a Tony Hawk game a long time ago. Even though the soundtrack for the THPS games is usually decent there’s nothing like having your own soundtrack.
Thanks Joystiq
At the new, lower price of $99 the MS wireless racing wheel is still a bit expensive for the average gamer. However, if you’re a racing game fan, with a decent size wallet, the wheel really is a solid purchase. As of right now the Xbox 360 is one of the best platforms for racing games. We’ve got some great games like: Dirt (must own), Sega Rally Revo (rental), Forza Motor Sport 2 (best simulation), Project Gotham Racing 4 (best arcade/sim), and the upcoming Burnout Paradise (best speed/crashing).

Everyone knows the best place to play the Nintendo DS is in the bathroom while you rest and think about your day. Who needs a newspaper when you can blast aliens and save princesses? Not me. Why do you think the DS is the most popular system around? It’s not because of the Pictochat, I can tell you that much.
Anyway, let’s get to that countdown thing already. The Top Ten Toilet Titles! I had to use the word “titles” because games doesn’t start with the letter “t” and that’s no good. So here it goes.

Mario Kart has always been a great series ever since it’s debut on SNES. The Wii edition looks set to improve it with steering wheel like controls, a la Excite Truck, and adding Motorcycles to the mix. The game still doesn’t have many details and no release date. I’d say sometime in Spring next year.
Boom!
It sure is a big week for demos. Xbox 360 has just releases two new game demos today.
F.E.A.R. Summary from Microsoft’s Major Nelson: F.E.A.R. Files combines the award winning F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point with the brand new F.E.A.R.: Perseus Mandate in one terrifying package. This demo based off of the events in Extraction Point showcases the hyper-stylized action and paranormal horror that define F.E.A.R. Engage the Replica soliders and powerful supernatural entities in close quarters combat with a powerful arsenal, including the new Minigun. Highly destructible environments and combat adaptable AI bring the action to life in this follow up to the critically acclaimed F.E.A.R.
First Impression: I didn’t want to play it. It’s too creepy.
Project Gotham Racing 4 summary from Major Nelson: Race three exotic cars and two beauteous bikes through the streets of Macau and a snow laden Nürburgring. Includes an exclusive Nürburgring Snow Challenge and unique PGR Arcade Events.
First Impression: If you played Project Gotham Racing 3 for the 360, you’ll like this game. It improves on most everything. The graphics are absolutly stunning. The control lends itself more towards the arcade than simulation, personally I prefer that. It’s a pretty solid demo, check it out. After all, it’s free.
Boom!

Gamestop actually gives you a good reason to pre-order a game. If you like a good solid rally racer and you’ve tired of Dirt, Sega Rally Revo offers a great arcade rally experience. The game comes out next week, October 9th. Funcoland, I mean Electronics Boutique, I mean GameStop finally has a good reason to say yes to all those nagging requests to pre-order a game. Pre-order the new Sega Rally Revo for Xbox 360 and pay $10 less for it. Just go to GameStop.com here and pre-order before the game ships next week.
