Xbox 360 vs Playstation 3

Could it be? Does the PS3 have more and better exclusives this year? Looks like 2008 may possibly be the year of the Playstation, again. Just like old times.

Is it just me or is almost every big game coming out this year a sequel? No matter what console you’re on. Either way, you got to be excited about something on the list. If the majority of these games actually release this year, wow. But does anyone really expect that? So, let’s jump in and analyze the exclusives. Note, this list in no way represents the entire list of exclusive titles for each console. It does, however, represent what we at Counteragent think are the biggest exclusives most likely to actually be released this calender year.

In a recent interview Hideo Kojima, the man behind the MGS series, dropped the news that MGS4 is gonna be really big. I guess that’s not a surprise, right? Just how big? Well so big it won’t even fit on a PS3 Blu-Ray disc.

He mentioned how they had to compress certain parts of the game so it would fit.  Kojima said the quality could have been better but they didn’t have the needed space. So far the only reported cut part is that the Japanese version doesn’t have an English vocal track and the English version has no Japanese vocal track.

I’m sure it won’t hurt the game too much. Let’s just hope that the game is good no matter what.

Once again from the no-brain-er category comes the news that WipEout HD, the upcoming PS3 game, will have fully customizable soundtracks. Thank you!! Any racing game or sports game should have this feature, don’t ya think?

Last game I made a soundtrack for was a Tony Hawk game a long time ago. Even though the soundtrack for the THPS games is usually decent there’s nothing like having your own soundtrack.

Thanks Joystiq

Here are some release dates:
MySims Kingdom for Nintendo DS and Wii should be released in the beginning of October and the end of December.
MySims for PC to be out about the same time.
MySims Party for Nintendo DS and Wii to be released between January and March 2009.
SimCity Creator will be out sometime before 2011. When exactly? I dunno.
SimAnimals to be by the end of March 2009.
Wow that is a lot of Sims. I’m still working on Sims 2 Open for business. I haven’t sold my first flower arrangement yet. If you gotta tip, let me know. I need me some simoleons people! Oh, and I hope you enjoy the video I made. Those Sims are always up to no good.

Thanks Shacknews!

ATT 5 Dollar Bill

The newly “re-monopolized” media giant AT&T has decided, according to CNET’s new daily video news program Loaded (great supplement to Buzz Out Loud), to raise it’s DSL prices. They’re going to be raising the prices for their monthly Broadband DSL by $5/month.

Why you ask? Because of all the value you’re getting. A spokesman with AT&T is quoted saying, this price adjustment is being done in order to “better reflect the value of the broadband service and market conditions.” The price increase will only effect AT&T’s three lower-speed tiers of service. It will not only effect new customers, but all current subscribers as well.

AT&T has also said, “Even with this adjustment, our pricing still beats cable’s standard pricing across the majority of our markets,” AT&T spokesman Brad Mays said via CNET. “We’re confident that customers will see the value in the service and that we’ll continue to grow our customer base.”

I don’t know about you, but this will directly effect me as I have Bellsouth, I mean the new (more expensive) AT&T. I’m not exactly happy about this seeing as how the alternatives I have are very limited. I don’t have cable. I have satellite. No way would I get satellite broadband. This might just push me to upgrade to the premium service seeing as how the prices only effect the cheaper (now former cheaper) DLS plans.

Does this effect you? Speak up and let us know.

I just watched a video about Microsoft’s Surface touch-screen tabletop computer. It uses multi-touch technology. It’s kind of like the iPhone the way you can flip images and maximize with 2 fingers. But this is really neat because you can put your phone or camera on the surface (touch-screen tabletop) and it will recognize the device and let you select files you would like to share with any other devices on the surface. It looks really nice. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said they are trying to speed up the process after getting a lot of demand for a consumer version. Maybe it’ll be ready by spring. Maybe.

Thanks to Sparkingtech.com, CNetnews.com and Microsoft for the information.

1.5 billion dollars sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? That’s how much EA made this year. But they announced they made 33 million in the 3rd quarter of this fiscal year. Sounds good right? Until you compare it with the 160 million they made last year. That’s quite a drop off.

Well that really does not effect us as gamers, unless of course you happen to have EA stock. What does effect gamers is the decision to delay Mercenaries 2 and Battlefield : Bad Company.

“We’ve made the decision to move Battlefield: Bad Company and Mercenaries 2 into fiscal 2009,” said John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts. “Both titles are looking great, and we believe with additional polish, we will build a better consumer experience and thereby maximize our economics.”

Another vague push back. Oh well hopefully it will make the games better. I do like the part about “the additional polish” they are gonna put on the game.

microsoft_yahoo_bid.jpg

It just doesn’t have the same ring to it. Microsoft has made an official bid on the internet search and portal giant Yahoo! according to GamerNode.com. $44.6 billion dollars. Check out the details in their official press release here. On a similar note, Counteragent.com is for sale for just under that price. Eh, Microsoft? I’m just saying.

Anyway, what does this mean for you and me? Probably nothing really. Maybe some stronger competition for Yahoo and Microsoft’s nemesis Google.

The bid would offer $31 per share, which according to Microsoft, “represents a 62 percent premium above the closing price of Yahoo! common stock on Jan. 31, 2008.” Yahoo responded to the bid from M$ saying they “will evaluate this proposal carefully and promptly in the context of Yahoo!’s strategic plans and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders.” Full details.

The guys over at Valve are hard at work on Half Life Episode 3 and they will finish it when they darn well please. In an interview with Eurogamer.com spokesperson Doug Lombardi dropped a bit of Portal news also.

“There’ll be more Portal, for sure. But the details of that, to be honest, we’re still working out,” he said.

“The only smart thing we did for Portal was to hire those seven kids and give them the support they needed to make the game.”

He also says it will be more then just “a bunch of new puzzles”.

Sweet! Not only new Portal stuff but it looks like they will be giving us some quality new stuff. There really isn’t any release date news here or even a ballpark date but still it looks like the critical darling that was Portal is being given some real tlc and the next one should be great as well.

Always interested in giving people a deal Valve is planning on continuing giving DLC for free for their games.
