In a statement released by Peter Jackson, MGM’s Harry Sloan and Bob Shaye from New Line, they announced basically that they are making up and Jackson will be able to fulfill his Hobbit fantasy. Production is to start in 2009.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson; Harry Sloan, Chairman and CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM); Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs of New Line Cinema have jointly announced today that they have entered into the following series of agreements:

* MGM and New Line will co-finance and co-distribute two films, The Hobbit and a sequel to The Hobbit. New Line will distribute in North America and MGM will distribute internationally.

* Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will serve as Executive Producers of two films based on The Hobbit. New Line will manage the production of the films, which will be shot simultaneously.

* Peter Jackson and New Line have settled all litigation relating to the “Lord of the Rings” (LOTR) Trilogy.

Said Peter Jackson, “I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to put our differences behind us, so that we may begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line. ‘The Lord of the Rings’ is a legacy we proudly share with Bob and Michael, and together, we share that legacy with millions of loyal fans all over the world. We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth. I also want to thank Harry Sloan and our new friends at MGM for helping us find the common ground necessary to continue that journey.”

Bob Shaye, New Line Co-Chairman and Co-CEO comments, “We are very pleased we have been able to resolve our differences, and that Peter and Fran will be actively and creatively involved with ‘The Hobbit’ movies. We know they will bring the same passion, care and talent to these films that they so ably accomplished with ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Trilogy.”

In case you forgot that little trilogy of “The Lord of the Rings” was a pretty big hit. You can expect “The Hobbit” to be pretty darn big also. No word on who will play Bilbo Baggins. You can be pretty sure it won’t be Ian Holm because he’s old. I’m pretty sure it will also be better then that cartoon hobbit movie.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!

If you wanna be surprised by the new T4 plot don’t read on.

If like me your ready for the Terminator series to die. Still can’t believe there will not only be a new movie but also a new TV series. No build up or anything just that CHUD’s Devin Faraci dropped this on us.

John Connor is not the main character of Terminator 4; that character is someone named Marcus. Marcus was put ‘out of commission’ before the nuclear holocaust on Judgment Day and he wakes up about 15 years before the future we see in the original Terminator films, which puts the movie at about 2015 or so. Marcus is a bad ass - think along the lines of Riddick - and what he finds is a blasted world filled with horror. Radiation poisoning, starvation, rampant jaywalking - all the things you expect post-apocalypse. There’s also John Connor, who is trying to build a utopian society while running the human resistance. Connor’s role is apparently bigger in the second film; whoever they hire for Marcus (my understanding is that the part is not yet cast) will be around for all three films. Terminator 4 is going to be the most male-centric of all the Terminator films, but there is a butt busting female character by the name of Blair, a pilot for the human resistance. They’re going to need some buttkickers, because the scope of the action in Terminator 4 is HUGE. Lots of machine action in this film, including some battles with the T-600s. Yup, the rubber skin Terminators. And there’s another familiar character that shows up - Reese shows up in a scene with John Connor. I don’t know what his involvement in the next two films will be, though.

A big aspect of the story is the degrees of difference between a human and a Terminator. By which I mean cyborgs. By which I mean human brains in robot bodies.
There you go folks!!

The cast of the upcoming G.I Joe movie is getting bigger and more character actorish by the day. Last week Sienna Miller and Ray Park were cast as The Baroness and Snake Eyes respectively. Poor Ray Park another role where he has his face covered.

This week sees 4 more cast rumors. Rachel Nichols will be Scarlett. You may recognize her from her last movie P2 ….. oh you didn’t see that! Ummm maybe you recognize her from the TV show Alias. Korean actor Byung-Hun Lee will be playing Cobras resident ninja Storm Shadow. He was the star of Lost Planet the video game. Also just added  Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Said Taghmaoui to the cast. They’ll be playing “Heavy Duty” and “Breaker”. Triple A ( like that clever short version of his name?) was in The Mummy Returns, The Bourne Identity or Get Rich or Die Tryin’. Taghmaoui was in  I Heart Huckabees and Hidalgo and a bunch of things about middle eastern terrorists. He was also the guy who tortured Mark Walhberg in Three Kings, “my main man”.

YES!YES!YES! The A-Team movie looks like it may actually finally be a reality. There have been rumors floating around about it since 2002. Now it has a director. John Singleton is going to direct according to several different sources. He’s best know for “Boyz in the Hood”. But also did such gems as the remake of Shaft and 2 Fast 2 Furious. Hopefully he will take good care of one of my favorite shows from my childhood. As a kid I was allowed to watch it because no one ever got shot or hurt despite the fact that in each show thousands of bullets flew. The re make is going to be a bit grittier according to sources and the A- Team will be veterans of the Gulf War.

Some pretty interesting names have been floating around about the cast. Jim Carrey, Mel Gibson, Christian Bale, and Ving Rhames to name a few. I sure that there is no way Jim Carrey and Mel Gibson will be in the same movie, but JC as Howling Mad Murdock would be amazing.

Give us your list of actors you think would be perfect for the parts here’s mine.

John “Hannibal” Smith - Gene Hackman (might be a bit old though)

Bosco “B.A” Baracus - Ving Rhames ( but I think MR. T can still hack it)

Templeton “Faceman” Peck - Vince Vaughn (he’d have to drop a few pounds though)

H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock - Jim Carrey

“I think it’s just up to the fans. They should just let me know.” That’s what Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson said to a journalist when deciding whether to play the superhero Shazam, or the on again, off again, heroish, villainish, Black Adam. While the studio originally offered him the lead heroic role of Captain Marvel, they also mentioned the anti-hero Black Adam. Right now it looks like he’s leaning toward Black Adam. Only time will tell. We’ll just have to wait and see if Dwayne is Captain Marvel or Black Adam, Good or Evil, Black or White. If he were Eddie Murphy he could just play both parts.

the_golden_compass_polar_bear

According to a story on Cinematical, The Golden Compass premiered to a less than stellar box office opening weekend. The overall cost of the fantasy epic cost over $250 million to make. The opening weekend grossed only around 10 percent of that (if I’m doing the math right) at $26 million.

Looks like they won’t be getting those sequels they want at this rate. Seeing as how this movie is based on a book that’s much more popular in the U.K. than here in the states, the international box office might help. However, even with that, it’s been speculated that the movie needs over $700 million just to break even.

Flop!

mclovin_superbad_fake_license.jpg

Home News Tribune and Gizmodo have reported: Wal-Mart has stopped selling DVDs of the movie “Superbad” in Hawaii. Mayor of Honolulu, Mufi Hannemann and others complained about the movies promotion of including fake Hawaii drivers licenses (ala McLovin) with the SuperBad DVD at Wal-Mart. The fake IDs are only in a special edition DVD. Some of the reasons for complaint are that they say it “could tempt teens to imitate the scene or otherwise use the cards inappropriately”.

If you didn’t know about the fake ID included in the special edition of this movie, you do now. This will probably cause a reverse effect for Hawaii, making even more kids want this movie just for the license.

McLovin!

star_wars_darth_vader_mighty_muggs.jpg

It could be. This is one of the newest editions to the official Star Wars store. It’s the adorable ‘Mighty Muggs’ renditions of some of the franchise’s favorite characters. Despite the name, it’s not actually a mug. Along with Darth Vader they’ve also got a Darth Maul, Chewbacca, Han Solo, and Storm Trooper. Each one is only $12.99. I’m thinking it could be a great gift for the Star Wars fan that already has everything else. Kinda reminds me of a Lego man with those hands.
