How’s that $99 HD DVD player you bought for Christmas doing? Watching all those sweet HD movies on your nice Toshiba HD DVD player? Well enjoy it while you can because it’s just about over for HD DVD.

Today Netflix users were informed that Netflix will be only stocking Blu Ray titles from now on. Fear not you will still be able to get HD DVD’s that happen to be stock but they will be phasing them out over the next year. The reason of course is that most of the major studios are going Blu Ray so of course it makes sense that a movie rental service would go that way.

So this day seems pretty awful for the HD DVD camp, could it get worse? Guess what it gets worse. Best Buy has announced that they will also be pushing Blu Ray. Starting in March the company will push all Blu Ray hardware and software even to the point of suggesting it when asked which is better.

Is anyone still hanging on to hope that HD DVD will make a stand and not die? Well this pretty much puts the last shovel load of dirt on the grave. Goodbye HD DVD we hardly knew ye.

Thanks Engadget
