Well 2007 is gone and 2008 is here with a vengeance. To be honest I’m a bit bummed that 07 is gone. It might have been the best video game year ever. I’m saying that it was. I’ll admit that most of the year was somewhat weak and it didn’t pick up until later in the year. But it was so good in November that I can over look the slow summer. With that said here’s what I loved and didn’t love about 07.

First off I didn’t love the glut of games that came out in November. Let me explain….there is only so much time and money I can spend on those games in a short period of time. I mean come on cut me some slack. When I get my hands on a great game I wanna put as much time as I can on it. With the amount of great games that hit in the last of the year I either had to fall behind, which is what I’ve done, or I have to spend small amounts of time on each game. I understand that developers want to have new stuff out during the holiday season but this year was ridiculous. What did you play during the blazing hot summer months? I think I spent my time replaying Call of Duty 2.

Second off I loved the glut of games that came out in November. I know I might sound like an idiot but the games that came out in the fall were pretty much awesome. Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, Call of Duty 4, Rock Band, Super Mario Galaxy, Uncharted Drake’s Fortune all dropped in November. Halo 3, Guitar Hero 3, Bioshock, Metriod Prime and The Orange Box dropped all after August. There is some serious quality there. The amount of gaming time you have to put in to each one is staggering. As I said earlier its also a matter of money. Of course a few good games did come out earlier in the year like Lost Planet, Earth Defense Force, and GRAW 2.

Moving on, Nintendo still has no available Wiis for the public. Of course it doesn’t matter to have a Wii because you got nothing great to play. Sure SMG is ok but besides that has anything really been worth buying a Wii. I’m so tired of Nintendo not looking out for the gamers who made them what they are today. Nothing for the “hardcore gamer” that really stands out.

Speaking of weak stuff, what about Sony and they’re almighty PS3? Nothing but delays and stuff going wrong with their releases. Will we ever see Metal Gear Solid 4? They have yet to release a top tier exclusive title. Drake’s was good and Ratchet and Clank was ok but come on Sony hook us up. They dropped the price, so that was nice at least now the system is in the other systems price ballpark.

Then there’s Xbox live. Maybe the connection issues just started to be really bad recently, but all year the DLC has been somewhat weak. XBLA is barely worth looking at. Is there anything there that you would spend 10 bucks on? I’ll take Xbox live over the Playstation Network anyday, but anytime your paying for something and it doesn’t work it sucks.

Hopefully 2008 will be strong for the gamer. Hopefully we’ll see MGS4 and GTA 4 sometime this year.
